Tun Dr Mahathir first became active in politics in 1964, when he won the election in Kota Setar, Kedah. This was the start of a long and illustrious career which spanned decades and included various cabinet portfolios, culminating in his appointment as Malaysia’s fourth and longest-serving Prime Minister (1981-2003). Tun Dr Mahathir is also the first Malaysian to be appointed as Prime Minister twice when he became the nation’s seventh PM in 2018. Retired from active politics, Tun Dr Mahathir is focusing on writing his thoughts on Malaysian history and current events.
